This week, we interviewed one of our Work Experience students, Alexis, to find out more about her and her experiences of working at Matrix for the week.
Tell us a bit about yourself, Alexis.
My name is Alexis Orias. I am 17 years old and I study IB. My subjects are English, Spanish, Maths, Biology, History and Philosophy. I was originally born in the Philippines and I have lived in England for 10 years. I love languages. I like to paint but I don’t like sports.
Why are you interested in Law?
I am part of my local county youth cabinet and this year in May, I was able to go to Strasbourg in to the European Parliament and got to see also the European Court of Human Rights. I talked to many of the lawyer linguists and I was really interested in the specific area because of the languages. Throughout my visit I was able to debate various topics such as Youth Unemployment in regards to the future of European youths. Although that was more political, the issues that arose from the visit directed me in to being interested in European and International law.
What aspects of law interest you the most?
European and International Law is my favourite aspect of law because I love languages and I’ll be able to work not just nationally, but also internationally.
What has been the best part of your week at Matrix?
I think that the visits to court have been the best part of the week because they were very insightful, although some cases were confusing due to the use of a lot of law terminology. It was extremely rewarding to see the different processes in court and also how a court actually works.
What are you planning on doing next?
I am going to University next year to study either a straight law degree or a sandwich degree. After this I plan to go to France and study the language and apply to the European Parliament and hopefully work as a lawyer linguist.
